International anerkannte Sprachzertifikate – University of Cambridge
My experience with the Cambridge B2 First exam
by Ivan Rainer
Last year, I decided to take the B2 level exam at the Cambridge Assessment Centre. I wanted to have my English level certified, which is often an admission requirement for studies at universities or for different jobs. That was one of the reasons, but I also wanted to improve my English level for school and for my future, because I want to travel to English speaking countries someday.
I became aware of the exam at the beginning of the last schoolyear, when an email was sent to us students about these Cambridge English exams. There were two exams to choose from: the B2 First (FCE) and the C1 Advanced (CAE) exam. I chose the first option because I was not confident enough with my English skills, but now I think I would have been able to do also the C1 exam.
Here is a tip, if you are not sure which exam to choose: you can also get the C1 certificate from the FCE exam, if you get a certain number of points (180 out of 190).
Two of the English teachers at our school, Kirchler Judith and Bodner Barbara, offered a preparation course for the exams. I was very glad that I could attend this course because I got a lot of crucial information about the exam that I would not have been able to get elsewhere. We worked with the book “Compact First For Schools“, which contains a lot of good exercises to prepare for the exam.
The course started in November and ended in March with the mock exams, which were also extremely helpful for the real exam.
My exam date was in May 2022. I got an email in advance with some information about the exam day (location, time, things to bring, etc.). The exam took place in Bozen and started with the written exam (Reading & Use of English, Writing, Listening) and continued in the afternoon with the spoken exam. The examiners were very friendly and polite, and the atmosphere was relaxed, even though I was nervous before the exam.
The results took a very long time to be published, but I was very excited when I saw in July that I had passed the FCE exam with a C1 level certificate. I was very glad and happy. I really encourage everyone to take these exams to get a certified English level so that you have plenty of opportunities in the future. Now, while you are still in school, it is the right time to take exams like these and to work on improving your English level.
Wir wünschen allen Kandidat*innen viel Erfolg! 🍀
